In 2004 he was also given Best Athlete honours from the Canadian Olympic Committee at their annual Gala Dinner in Montreal. He also received this prestigious honour from CTV again in 2008 after he finished 3rd place at the Beijing Olympics. He has been a member of many community organizations including philanthropic efforts to combat AIDS and cancer and his work with schoolchildren to help them learn about science and math.
