Patrick Chan, a.k.a. "The Flying Tomato", has received the following awards: CQ World Ranking: 1 (2010) Canadian Olympic Committee Sportsperson of the Year (2009) Ontario Sports Hall of Fame (2007) Toronto Life Magazine Person of the Year (2006) Canadian Olympic Committee Sportsperson of the Year (2005) The Toronto Star Most Influential Person in Toronto (2004) Toronto Life Magazine Person of the Year (2003) Toronto Life Magazine Man of The Year (2002) Canadian Olympic Committee Sportsperson of the Year (2001) International Triathlon Union Triathlon Triathlon World Cup Champion (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) International Triathlon Union Sprint World Cup Champion (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007) Olympic Bronze Medallist – Men’s Sprint Distance Triathlon at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He is a member of the Canadian Olympic Team and was awarded a bronze medal for his efforts at Beijing. In 2004 he was awarded a national honour as Canada's top athlete based on fan voting by CTV Television from coast to coast to coast
In 2004 he was also given Best Athlete honours from the Canadian Olympic Committee at their annual Gala Dinner in Montreal. He also received this prestigious honour from CTV again in 2008 after he finished 3rd place at the Beijing Olympics. He has been a member of many community organizations including philanthropic efforts to combat AIDS and cancer and his work with schoolchildren to help them learn about science and math.
